A Call for Equal Rights for Women Farmers
This is the VOA Special English Agriculture Report, from http://voaspecialenglish.com | http://facebook.com/voalearningenglish
A new report says if women farmers had the same rights as men, more could be done to reduce world hunger. The report, "Empowering Women in Agriculture," is from the anti-hunger group Bread for the World. Bread for the World says equal access to agricultural resources would help increase food security and economic growth. Faustine Wabwire is the group's foreign assistance specialist. A Call to Action for Human Rights - UN Chief
Addressing the Human Rights Council, United Nations Secretary -General António Guterres launched a Call to Action for Human Rights. He said these rights are powerful tools for preventing conflict, reducing human suffering and building a just and equitable world. In the face of a discernible pushback on human rights around the world, the Call to Action singles out seven areas where concerted effort is required, either because there is an opportunity for real progress or the risk of real backsliding.

She says women constitute half of the agricultural labor force in not just Africa, but the developing countries as a whole. "And when you think of Africa alone," she says, "it's more than sixty percent of the total agricultural labor force being provided by women." The report says in most countries, women working in rural areas are more likely than men to hold seasonal, part-time and low-wage jobs. They also receive less pay for the same work. Ms. Wabwire says women farmers often cannot get seeds, fertilizer, proper tools, credit and, especially, land. She says in most of Africa, about eighty percent of the population is living in rural areas and they subsist on agriculture. Women make up sixty percent of the agricultural labor force and yet they lack access to resources, she says. She says land is one good example: less than twenty percent of all landholders are women. This is often because of legal as well as cultural reasons. She says women who have lost their husbands may have no legal rights over their land. The only way to keep the land, she says, is to marry, say, the brother of the dead husband. Restrictions like these, she says, "continue to impede women's ability to fully enjoy their human rights." However, Ms. Wabwire says women in agriculture are getting more attention these days. For example, Kenya's new constitution gives women the right to own land. But she says there is still a long way to go. Bread for the World is urging the United States government to increase development assistance, or at least not to decrease it. She says Feed the Future, the U.S. government's agriculture aid program, is helping to elevate the status of women. But Ms. Wabwire says more African governments must recognize the major role that women play in agriculture and elsewhere. Just how much could hunger be reduced if women had equal access to agricultural resources? The report estimates that hunger could be reduced for an extra one hundred to one hundred fifty million people. For VOA Special English, I'm Alex Villarreal. still so many people feel worse than others, because they are discriminated. Everyone is special in their own way. In a perfect Europe no one would be jugded by sexuality, gender or appearance.
no war, no … egoism
equality for all - without racism
one world - no hurt - human desire
so set an alarm, set priorities higher
everybody must do their own part
opinions should not let us drift apart
the time is now on us to start
the time is now on us to start
we want plastic - we think its phantastic
we’ve used it before - so why not anymore
but we want you to bequeath our planet in a better
condition - make a decision
we must get closer to climate neutral
let’s invest more in less wasteful
more support by a court
with objective perspectives
freedom is about ensuring respect
the right to communicate and to act
to express your most authentic self
and who you truely are (2 x )
too many things we want to achieve
may be we really are too naive to believe
all these politicians talk and talk
Great Britain left the EU and walked and walked
if we reached equality as a self evidential thing, a lot of problems could be solved like human rights violation and disrespect for human dignitiy.
people should feel safe and protectedno one should get hurt or affectedfor now and forever, let`s work together
to make the world a little bit better
yes, I hear what you say let me put it this way
racism sexism inequality thats what you can’t overlook currently
thats what you can’t overlook, thats what you can’t overlook
thats what you can’t overlook, thats what you can’t overlook currently
let us replace hate by love, may be that would be enough
guess what I’m afraid of easy answer
that my future is going down faster
how could we convey and obey the things you say
if yo many people still don’t see it this way
oh, theres still so much to do
and some people don’t have a clue
freedom of speach freedom of choice
but you choose to silence their voice
heart is racing - mind is running
tape over their mouth - no words coming
people should feel safe and protected
no one should get hurt or affected
for now and forever, let`s work together
to make the world a little bit better
people should feel safe and protected
no one should get hurt or affected
let`s make the world a better place
human dignity for everyone in space
even If you help someone to fix a broken bike
even if you wait some time, instead of cutting in line
you do good little things, which are perfectly fine

A distress call for human rights
The Central Mediterranean has become one of the deadliest migration routes in the world
Many of these deaths are avoidable
European states have retreated from their obligations to swiftly rescue people in distress at sea and bring them to safety
The integrity of the search & rescue system has been undermined
States have withdrawn their naval rescue capacity where it is most needed
States hinder the activities of NGOs working to protect migrants’ rights & deliver life-saving assistance
They delay disembarkation & leave people stuck on boats for long periods
States enable interceptions & returns to Libya, exposing people to horrific human rights abuses
This is unacceptable.
Solutions are available to protect human rights at sea
Increase naval rescue capacity where it is most needed
Provide alternatives to dangerous sea crossings with safe & legal routes such as resettlement or family reunification
Co-operate with NGOs & stop judicial & administrative harassment
End pushbacks & stop facilitating returns to human rights violations, esp. to Libya
Share responsibility fairly among European countries
“It is high time for European countries to put an end to the shameful tragedy unfolding in the Mediterranean.”
“States must no longer delay taking action to save lives. It is a matter of life or death – and of the credibility of European countries’ commitment to human rights” DUNJA MIJATOVIĆ

European states are still failing to protect refugees and migrants trying to reach Europe via the Mediterranean.
They must no longer retreat from their obligations to swiftly rescue and bring people to safety and to cooperate with NGOs
